Hello! I’m Allan… here is a little bit about me.
the story so far…
I’m a dad, a husband, a brother and a huge fan of Sci-Fi movies!
I grew up in a small town called Port Dickson. and although now based in a beautiful crazy Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, I shoot weddings right across Malaysia and some destination weddings abroad.
I live in the city with my wife, Neo and our daughter, Rachel.
1996
Most of the inspiration comes from my dad, he was once a popular photographer known across the region by winning few international awards. That’s kinda amazed me! When I was 10, he handed me one of his camera, a Nikon FA together with books and asked me to enjoy taking photos with it with unlimited supply of films… I started taking photos anytime, anyplace. They were terrible photos but that didn’t stop me from exploring my capabilities. By reading and referencing more photography books, probably hard work will pay off!!!
1999
High school, always carry my dad’s Nikon F4s in my bag to capture all kinds of stuff around the school… people, ball games, environments… Despite the poor quality of the photos taken, the reason I loved photography was the way it allow me to meet and engage with people around not just the school but also entire town. I was able to communicate my feelings through my images and show people how I saw the world hence a way inviting people into my life, my story.
2004
University, where digital started to move into my life. Got myself the very first DSLR from Nikon, the D70… things had gone way easier with Adobe Photoshop and later on comes the Adobe Lightroom. Being one of the official photographer in the campus, always got invited for events and portraiture sessions, therefore improving my skills around. Replaced my D70 with a D200 in the UK pursuing my degree. Documented my travels around the United Kingdom and Europe, meeting new people, gaining new experiences and knowledge.
2012
Got my travel photos featured in a few issue of Digital Camera Magazine. That’s when I decided to pursue photography, and particularly wedding portraiture, what drew me in was the people that were inviting me into one of their most important moments. Inviting me to collaborate with them and to be a part of their story. It was slow at first, but things started to pick up and bookings are coming in.
2016
Started being recognize in the region of Malaysia and Singapore. Featuring my portraiture works in Sony – Power of Imaging Southeast Asia. Collaboration with Pretty-in-White with their exclusive gowns, shoes and accessories. Working alongside with a few cinematograher, Beezworks Productions, Inspiron Studio and etc.
It was incredibly meaningful to me when I started taking photography seriously because I didn’t have to necessarily explain my story with words, I can actually show it. The most amazing thing about stories is that you get to participate in the journey alongside those for whom you are documenting. Life is full of surprises-full of beauty. Wao. Awe. Fears. Hope. Joy. Incredible things how Weddings bring these together all into one place and make them into one beautiful story.
I want to take photos that are part of a legacy. I really want to leave behind a legacy to those around me.
Love and Marriage is a big deal, if you don’t need a reason to book a flight to Europe for a photoshoot – if your wedding is a celebration in the woods or beach where you first fell in love, then please get in touch with me because I think we are going to get along well.
Thanks for hanging in there, reading the stories of mine and checking out my works. Looking forward in meeting you.
